1. Do you think the product is typical of a music video? if so, how?
All ten members of our audience thought that our product was typical of a music video. Reasons for their answers included the use of different camera shots, use of editing (including controlling the pace to match the song as well as perfect lip-synching) and the focus on the band (mainly the lead singer/guitarist) via performance shots.
2. Does this break away from the stereotype of the typical music video? If so, how?
Nine of the ten members of our audience believed that our product did not break away from the stereotype of music video. However, one person believed that our video did in fact do this; their reasoning being that more than one singer was featured in the video.
3. Did the pace of the editing match the pace and energy of the music?
All ten members of our audience agreed that the editing matched the pace of the music, noting that the video was slower-paced during the verses and more fast-paced during the chorus - basically, it was slower when it needed to be and faster when it needed to be. This was thought to add to the overall energy of the product.
4. Are there any improvements that could be made and why?
Suggestions for improvement included greater use of location shots (with the studio shots being seen by one person as 'rather false') and the reduction of the 'destruction' backgrounds seen during the chorus. There was also the suggestion of less 'solid' backgrounds during the course of the video, with the coloured backgrounds not proving universally popular. It was also noted that some of the green screen could be seen in the main artist's hair.
5. Which elements in the video work and why?
Our audience particularly liked the perfect lip-synching throughout the video, due to it adding more realism to the product. The 'destruction' backgrounds seen in the video were also popular (albeit also considered 'overdone'), believing that they fit well with the lyrics. The 'earthquake' camera effect was also well-liked, with the audience noting how it added more energy to the product. Also adding more energy and realism was the presence of instrument playing in the video.
6. Which elements didn't work and why?
Some of the audience were of the opinion that the aforementioned 'destruction' shots did not particularly work, due to there being too many. One person noted that they didn't think the 'earthquake' camera effect worked, whilst another mentioned the small fire and use of snow during the verses as an element that they did not believe worked.
7. Does the genre of the music fit in with the style of video?
All ten members of our audience were of the opinion that our chosen genre of music (pop-punk) fit well with the style of video. It was noted that the editing helped maintain interest throughout, as well as how 'positive' the video was, as opposed to more modern, 'dark and depressing' videos of this genre.
