Gender: Male.
Race: Any to maximize the appeal of the artist/genre - the wider the range, the higher the possibility of good sales.
Age: Teenagers - Young Adults (14 - 22) - Pop punk is rebellious, energetic and angst-filled, so teenagers and young adults will be able to relate to it - as pop punk lyrics often refer to what is happening in many teens lives.
Socio Economic Status: Mainly students, so people with part time jobs at best - E (Subsidience).
The cross-cultural psychological profiles brought forward by Young and Rubicam help define different audience. Our Psychographic Profile would be Aspirers, because our target audience is likely to have phones, laptops, and other high tech, expensive technology or clothing that gives them 'status'.
However, it could be argued that we do not have a psycho-graphical profile because our target audience is rebellious and doesn't care about their reputation or standing, and only care about their friends and music.
Secondary audiences could be all music listeners - If the album was to obtain a positive critical reception, then it would likely go to the top of the charts and gain more listeners that are not fans of pop punk. This secondary audience would most likely be Mainstreamers - people who would just buy the album because it was top of the charts and they would want to conform. A secondary audience would also be female listeners.
Examples of the 'mainstream' audience turning to this genre would be Green Day's widely-acclaimed American Idiot album, or Linkin Park's A Thousand Suns.
Using James Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs, we have deduced that our text would mainly fulfill Esteem, because the buyers would have a sense of Achievement from buying the album, perhaps Confidence that they are part of a group that listens to their same style and taste of music, and Respect from other fans for listening to it.Similarly, by using McQuail and Blumler's theory of Uses and Gratifications, we can see that our text could be used for our target audience to find Personal Identity, through linking lyrics in the songs to their own lives (people that listen to "Stay Together For the Kids" might have been affected by divorce).
Integration and Social Integrity: Many people find that music is a common ground to make new friends with; many people can use the music they listen to to find people with similar tastes and establish a base friendship.
Entertainment: Assuming our text builds a fan base, the fans would be looking to just be entertained by our media text - or possibly to relax to it, or to watch the video and feel awed by it. The fans would be listening to it just to listen - and not because of any other people forcing them, or feeling forced to listen to it to fit in.
The music can also provide a feeling of escapism.
Our text will appeal to the audience because we are planning to shoot much more footage than can be used in the video, providing an constant flurry of interesting shots that takes at least a few watches to try and watch them all. This also means that the more people watch it, the more they will notice about the video. By doing this, we will have to have about 2 - 3 hours of footage for the four minute long track.
The content in the video as well will have to be interesting, and we will use the green screen/iconography/cinematography to keep the audiences interest.
